AMD has accelerated its efforts for Zen 5 architecture. It is claimed that Zen 5-based processors, which are expected to be released in the second half of the year, may have compatibility issues with Windows 10. It is rumored that the company will not support Windows 10 on Ryzen 8000 series mobile processors.
Ryzen 8000 series processors may not support Windows 10
AMD introduced the Ryzen 8000 Strix Point APUs at the end of last year. The Zen 5 architecture was rumored to deliver a 40 percent increase in IPC (operations per cycle) performance compared to Zen 4 chips. New comments from a Lenovo executive revealed that internal tests were not that high.
The Lenovo China executive discussed the results of the Cinebench R23 single-threaded benchmark. Accordingly, he stated that Zen 5 achieved an IPC increase of about 10 percent compared to Zen 4. Multi-threading scores showed 15 percent better performance.
This contradicts claims that Zen 5 delivers an IPC increase of close to 40 percent. Still, the new processors should provide significant performance gains over Zen 4 when they are released later this year.
In addition, the Lenovo executive said AMD plans to drop support for Windows 10. Ryzen 8000 mobile processors from the Strix Point series will not support Windows 10 drivers. In this context, AMD will focus only on Windows 11 in the next generation.
Strix Point mobile processors, also called Ryzen AI HX, are expected to be released in the second half of the year. Although not yet officially announced, it seems that significant changes are on the way for Zen 5-based processors.
